Blue Scheelite Gemstone Silver Handmade Necklace

Description

Blue and white scheelite gemstone set in a silver necklace which I have handmade using traditional jewellery making techniques. This scheelite gem is a mix of blue and white shades forming a stripey pattern.   I recently visited the Norwegian Fjords and this scheelite gem reminded me of the beautiful snow capped mountains.  I set this piece in a crown style silver setting to echo the shape of the mountains we saw at the Briksdal Glacier and added a beaded wire loop to the top from which the chain is suspended.

The silver is pushed right over the stone in what is called a rubover setting making the gem really secure. 

This necklace has been fully hallmarked at the London Assay office and is stamped on the back of the pendant.

The setting has a beaded silver link from which 3 silver rings suspend the pendant from a sterling silver belcher style chain. I offer 18, 20 or 22 inch or an extender option that you can wear at different lengths and you can choose your chain length preference from the drop down menu.

The pendant measures approx 2.5cm across the widest point of the silver loop and approx 3.8cm from the top of the triple loop to the bottom of the setting.

Gemstone Details

This scheelite gemstone is a beautiful wide teardrop shape and has a mix of blue and white shades in a stripey pattern running through it. The colour mix reminds me of the snow capped mountains and blue waters we saw recently on a trip to the Norwegian Fjords. There is a little light brown shading through the stripes too.

Blue scheelite is also know as Lapis Lace Onyx and is a combination of calcite (which gives it the white base colour), scheelite and blue dolomite.  Scheelite was named after Cark Wilhelm Scheele who discovered it. It is found in many places worldwide but the blue variety is predominately found in Turkey.

Jewellery Care

Please take care not to get products such as hairspray, perfume and cleaning products near your jewellery; they can affect the silver by tarnishing it and could affect any gemstone colours and surface.

I would recommend removing jewellery before bathing, swimming and going to bed and storing in the box when not being worn.
