Description
There are times in life when we all feel a little fractured.
This piece began as a solid block of oak, naturally split and imperfect — a reflection of how life can shape us in unexpected ways. Rather than conceal those characteristics, I chose to work with them, opening the piece to explore what might lie beneath the surface.
At its core, five hand-formed steel rods are set between the sections. They are not immediately visible, but they are essential — quietly holding everything together.
The visible cracks remain. The cuts are deliberate. The structure is exposed. And yet the piece stands balanced, functional, and complete.
Contrasting hardwood bow tie inlays stabilise and celebrate the natural movement of the timber, while a subtle angled base gives the piece presence and lift.
Inner Strength – No.1 is the first in a series exploring the idea that even in difficult moments, there is always something within us holding everything together.
A quiet reminder that strength is often there, even when it isn’t always visible.
