Description
I love making these bowls. Clear flat sheet glass is covered with sifted glass powders on both sides, rich pinks on the first side patterned with a hand tool and fired to 780c and shades of fresh green with a fern pattern made with a scalpel on the reverse, also fired to 780c. The piece is shaped by laying the glass on a ceramic ring and allowing it to stretch through the hole, it has to be watched carefully until it reaches the desired height (this can take hours) and then the waste glass from the rim is removed and smoothed to reveal a fine glass vessel which is the sand blasted to create a soft sheen. There is jeopardy at each stage which makes the whole process so rewarding and a joy to complete. It sits on a wooden stand which allows the vessel to tipped for display
