Description
I love making these bowls. The pattern is created using a blend of glass powders to create a large patterned wafer and fired to 780c, this is then fused to a clear base also fired to 780c. The piece is shaped by laying the glass on a ceramic ring and allowing it to stretch through the hole, it has to be watched carefully until it reaches the desired height (this can take hours) and then the waste glass from the rim is removed and smoothed to reveal a fine glass vessel which is the sand blasted to create a soft sheen. There is jeopardy at each stage which makes the whole process so rewarding and a joy to complete. It sits on a wooden stand which allows the vessel to tipped for display.
