Description
These earrings were made in response to a challenge by the Association for Contemporary Jewellery for earrings on the theme of “Duality”. There are six pairs in the exclusive series exploring the duality of geometry represented by straight outlines with curves within. This pair have a particularly geometric appearance – so pretty and contemporary.
The filigree technique has a fascinating history with the earliest pieces coming from Mesopotamia and dating back to 3000BC, worn by many ancient civilisations. I love the experience of learning some of the techniques handed down over the centuries to the amazing filigree master craftsmen in the world today.
It is a very detailed and time consuming process, producing such delicate and beautiful results. Tiny wires of silver and/or gold are twisted, flattened and formed into traditional shapes which come together to make some lovely jewellery and ornamentation. Here I am utilising the style to create my own contemporary earrings, which many of you know are my addiction!
These earrings are completely handmade from recycled sterling silver, starting with preparing the twisted fine filigree wires. I am loving the process of creating this new range of one-off and exclusive earrings. Every pair is unique and an adventure – I hope you love them as much as I love making them!
