Description
Having discovered sea swimming during lockdown, I was inspired to create art!
Here is my first underwater painting. Acrylic on plywood board, it is finished with a glossy resin and is ready to hang.
Measures 53 x 53 x 4 cm.
Original underwater Viking painting.
£250.00
This original painting explores Shetland’s deep connection to the sea, blending history, myth and the hidden world beneath the waves. Above the surface, Viking longboats glide across calm blue water, their curved prows silhouetted against the sky. Below, the scene opens into a vibrant underwater world filled with flowing kelp forests, shoals of fish and shafts of light filtering down through the sea.
The composition invites the viewer to move between two worlds — the visible and the unseen — echoing Shetland’s Norse heritage and the richness of life beneath its surrounding waters. Layered brushwork and luminous colour create a strong sense of depth, movement and calm, while subtle details reward closer viewing.
A striking and imaginative piece, this painting celebrates both Shetland’s Viking past and its living marine environment, making it a powerful statement artwork for any space.
