I’m Darren, based in Plymouth, Devon, and I create hand-carved wooden pieces using sustainably sourced and repurposed wood. That might mean working with a fallen oak tree from a friend’s field or breathing new life into an old teak science bench from a school classroom.
Each piece is shaped and finished by hand in my shed using a small selection of well-loved tools: a bandsaw, carving knives, and plenty of sandpaper. The final touch is a generous coating of beeswax, giving the wood a soft sheen and a beautifully smooth, tactile finish. The natural warmth of the wood creates a calming, comforting feel that invites you to pick it up and enjoy it.
Every item I make is unique and thoughtfully crafted, making it an ideal gift for a loved one or a meaningful object of comfort and support. Each piece is carefully wrapped and presented in either a gift box or a natural jute bag, as detailed in the item description.
After a 33-year career in the Royal Navy as a Hydrographic Surveyor, I’ve developed a strong eye for detail, and nothing leaves my workshop until I’m completely happy with it. I hope you’ll feel the same.
Although I’m a British maker and everything is made in the UK, you might spot me out and about in my motorhome, Betty. Whether I’m travelling around the UK or across Europe, my portable carving box is always with me — living my best life and making things especially for you.
