Based in Northumberland, Saint James Felt Studio creates needle felt ornaments and figurines based on fairy tales, folklore and magic, as told through British wildlife.

Inspired by the beauty of British wildlife and centuries of British folklore and fairytales, I focus on storytelling; celebrating the natural world and valuing sustainability. Everything that I make is anchored in fairy tales, folklore, magic, and the mysteries of this place.

About Me

I grew up reading classic tales of magical, whimsical creatures and I was absolutely fascinated by the miniature homes that they created for themselves in nature, the lives they lived and the communities they created. I wanted to be part of those worlds, to see and experience them myself.

I retained this fascination into my adulthood, and this expanded into an interest in the magical customs and folklore of the British Isles. And I noticed a connection. Those gorgeous little creatures that inspired me so much as a child, were a source of inspiration and fascination for our ancestors; their stories which formed the way that they understood and interpreted the inherent magic of the landscape and world around them.

And that’s what I do. I draw those wondrous connections through my needle felt ornaments. I don’t just make cute animals. Each one is a character and tells a special story, rooted in UK tradition, and designed to educate, inspire and spark joy every time you walk past it in your home.

I value sustainability, and these are high quality items, made by an artisan (moi!) made from natural, found or repurposed materials and made to last.
