Vendor Biography

Hi, I’m Becky. I design and create textiles inspired by 1940s wartime Britain, working from my home studio just a short walk from Ilkley Moor in West Yorkshire. I’m passionate about drawing on original designs and patterns from the era, recreating pieces that embody the ‘make do and mend’ spirit and honour the resourcefulness of that time.

I trained in fashion design and, after college, spent nearly 20 years working behind the scenes in costume for film and television. This experience shaped the way I work today, giving me a strong attention to detail and a deep appreciation for construction, fit and finish.

I feel lucky to be based in an area with such a rich textile heritage. While there are fewer mills than there once were, some still remain, weaving beautiful cloth. I use locally woven fabrics in my work wherever possible, often sourcing end rolls and offcuts from Yorkshire mills and designing my range carefully to keep waste to a minimum.

Beyond the craftsmanship itself, my work is about storytelling. Each piece is a small window into the lives of the women who originally made and wore these items, celebrating their resilience and spirit while promoting thoughtful, sustainable making today.
