All I want for Christmas is…this!

Christmas is coming – there’s no denying it and the elves at the happy glass studio have been busy creating lots of lovely gifts for you all!

Move over socks and chocolates – this Christmas, it’s all about gifts that glow. If you’re looking to dazzle your loved ones with something truly unique, fused glass art might just be your holiday hero. It’s colourful, handcrafted and packed with personality – just like the people you’re shopping for.

What Is Fused Glass?

Imagine sheets of vibrant glass, carefully layered and melted together in a kiln until they fuse into one stunning piece. The result? A kaleidoscope of colour and texture that feels like happy magic captured in glass. Everything from the happy glass studio is handmade meaning no two pieces are ever exactly alike. Whether it’s a stand out piece of wall art or a tree ornament, fused glass art always gets people talking (and admiring).

Perfect Picks

  • For Mum: our winter robin pictures are sure to melt her heart
  • For your Bestie: a pebble people picture – personalised message available
  • For your cold water swimming enthusiast friend (or just someone with a funny sense of humour): sea swimmer cards
  • For your grandparents: a choice of tree hangers in varying colours that’ll shine through the fairy lights

Fused glass gifts aren’t just beautiful – they’re meaningful. They say, “I saw this and thought of you,” in the most radiant way possible. So this Christmas, skip the ordinary and go for something that truly shines.

Let your gifts sparkle as brightly as the season itself. Happy gifting!

How to Choose the Perfect Handcrafted Jewellery Gift for Someone You Love

Nine pieces of jewellery available to buy from Jude Webster Jewellery

How to choose the perfect gift

Finding the perfect Christmas gift can be tricky, can’t it? You want something thoughtful, personal, and a little bit special — a gift that says I really thought about you. Jewellery is wonderful for that, especially when it’s handcrafted with care and meaning.

If you’re thinking of giving a piece of jewellery this Christmas, here are a few simple ways to choose something your partner, friend or mum will truly love.

 Think About Their Style

Take a moment to notice what they usually wear. Do they love simple silver pieces, or do they prefer something bolder? Are they drawn to classic shapes, or do they like a touch of texture and movement?

If your mum tends to wear the same silver pendant every day, a pair of handcrafted earrings in a similar tone could be perfect. If your partner loves stacking rings, why not add one with a unique hammered finish or a hint of gold detail?

Little clues like these will help you find something that feels just right for them.

 Choose Something Meaningful

Jewellery often carries a story — that’s what makes it so special. Perhaps you’d like to choose a piece inspired by nature, something that reflects their love of the outdoors or the Yorkshire countryside. Or maybe a design that symbolises connection, strength or growth.

When a piece has meaning, it becomes more than just something pretty to wear — it becomes a reminder of the moment and the person who gave it.

 Go for Quality Over Quantity

Handcrafted jewellery, made to last, is a gift that can be treasured for years. I make each piece with care from recycled sterling silver and sometimes gold, designed to be worn and loved — never just worn once and forgotten.

Choosing a handmade piece means you’re giving something truly one-of-a-kind — no mass production, no shortcuts, just honest craftsmanship.

 Add a Personal Touch

A handwritten note, a special card, or a simple story about why you chose that piece could make your gift even more meaningful.

Every order from me arrives carefully wrapped in eco-friendly packaging, ready for gifting — so you can give it straight away, knowing it’s been made and wrapped with love. I also offer a gift wrapping service for those that require it.

 A Final Thought

At the end of the day, the perfect gift doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. It’s the thought, care, and story behind it that make it special.

Whether you’re choosing for your partner, a dear friend or your mum, I hope you find a piece that feels personal and heartfelt — something they’ll treasure long after Christmas has passed.

You can browse my latest handcrafted jewellery collection over on The British Craft House (see link below) — and if you’re not sure what to pick, I’m always happy to help you choose.

What Is Silver, Exactly? A Guide to Recycled, Sterling, Fine & Argentium Silver Jewellery

Jude Webster Jewellery logo and some silver commission pieces

What Is Silver?

(Exploring sterling, fine, and Argentium silver — and why I choose recycled materials for my handcrafted jewellery.)

Introduction

Silver has always held a special place in jewellery making — timeless, radiant, and full of character. But not all silver is the same. From traditional sterling to the purity of fine silver and the innovation of Argentium, each has its own story and strengths.

At Jude Webster Jewellery, based in North Yorkshire, I create one-of-a-kind pieces using recycled sterling silver, fine silver, and occasionally Argentium silver — all crafted with care, respect, and a deep appreciation for the materials and their origins.

Sterling Silver — The Classic Choice

Sterling silver is perhaps the best-known form of silver used in jewellery. It’s made up of 92.5% pure silver, with the remaining 7.5% usually copper. That small addition gives it strength and durability — essential for pieces that are worn every day.

Pros:

• Strong and durable for everyday wear

• Beautiful, bright shine

• Perfect for rings, bangles, and other regular-use pieces

Cons:

• Can tarnish over time (though it’s easy to clean)

• Slightly less “white” in colour than fine or Argentium silver

I love working with sterling silver because it holds up beautifully in daily wear yet still carries that unmistakable warmth and lustre of silver.

Fine Silver — Pure and Gentle

Fine silver is the purest form used in jewellery, made up of 99.9% silver. It has a wonderfully soft, buttery surface and a gentle, almost glowing sheen.

Pros:

• Hypoallergenic and naturally resistant to tarnish

• Soft, luminous finish and colour

• Ideal for delicate or detailed pieces

Cons:

• Softer and more prone to scratching or bending

• Less suited for heavy-duty wear (like rings or bangles)

I sometimes use fine silver for small, detailed work  such as a bezel setting or where I want a slightly softer aesthetic, such as in hand-formed pendants.

Fine Silver Clay — Modern Alchemy

One of my favourite materials to work with is fine silver clay., It starts as a soft, malleable clay made from recycled fine silver particles mixed with a natural binder and water. This allows it to be shaped, carved, and textured by hand — perfect for creating organic, one-of-a-kind designs.

Once the piece is dry and refined, it’s fired in a kiln or with a torch. During firing, the binder burns away, and the silver particles fuse together to form solid 99.9% pure fine silver. The result is real, precious metal — just like any other fine silver, but formed through an incredibly tactile, creative process.

Pros:

• Made from recycled silver, making it an eco-conscious choice

• Ideal for detailed textures, imprints, and organic shapes

• Fires into pure fine silver (99.9%)

Cons:

• Slightly softer than sterling, so best for pendants, earrings, and keepsake pieces

• Requires careful drying and firing to achieve the best finish

Silver clay allows me to work more intuitively — shaping and forming by hand, rather than sawing and soldering. It’s a wonderful blend of traditional silversmithing and modern innovation, and it means no two pieces will ever be the same.

Argentium Silver — The Modern Innovator

Argentium silver is a more modern form of silver that takes the traditional sterling alloy and improves upon it. It’s available in two grades — Argentium 935 and Argentium 960 — both of which have a higher silver content than standard 925 sterling silver. Instead of being alloyed purely with copper, Argentium includes a small amount of germanium, which gives it some remarkable properties.

Pros:

• Highly tarnish-resistant, staying brighter for longer

• Whiter and more reflective than traditional sterling

• Easier to care for — a light polish restores its shine beautifully

• More environmentally friendly to produce, often made using recycled silver

Cons:

• Slightly more expensive and not as widely available as sterling

• Behaves a little differently under heat, so it requires careful handling when soldering

Argentium is a wonderful example of how traditional materials can evolve. It combines the beauty and versatility of sterling silver with the low-maintenance qualities we all appreciate — making it an excellent choice for modern, responsibly made jewellery.

Where Silver Comes From

Silver is mined all over the world — often as a by-product of copper, lead, or gold mining. Unfortunately, traditional mining can have a heavy environmental impact, disturbing landscapes and ecosystems. That’s one of the reasons I choose to use recycled silver wherever possible.

My recycled sterling comes from trusted UK suppliers who refine and reclaim silver from scrap jewellery, electronics, and other silver-bearing materials. The reclaimed silver is purified to the same standard as newly mined metal — meaning there’s no difference in quality, only in conscience.

Why Recycled Matters

Working with recycled silver allows me to create pieces that not already tell a story but continue, giving new life to materials that already exist. It aligns with my belief that beauty should never come at the cost of the planet. Every piece I make carries that quiet intention — care, respect, and a deep appreciation for the world that inspires it.

In conclusion:

Silver isn’t just silver. It’s history, craftsmanship, and responsibility — all bound together in metal that has captured human imagination for millennia. Whether it’s sterling, fine, Argentium, or fine silver clay, it’s a joy to work with — especially when it’s reborn from recycled roots.

What is Digital Collage?

I started making digital collages around ten years ago. I’d learned about creating layered effects in the darkroom, using film, but the advent of digital photography made this a far more accessible, and less chemical, process! Digital collages are made by layering images of textures on top of the source photograph using software such as Photoshop and then manipulating each layer until it gives the desired effect.

Collecting texture pictures can bring you some strange looks. These are soap suds in a sink!

I personally prefer a more painterly or hand drawn print look to my collages, so I use textures to help me to achieve that. My bank of textures include photographs of wood, metal, textiles, painted surfaces, stone and botanicals. It’s a long and painstaking process, moving between layers and working with the effect and the opacity of each, but ultimately I end up with an image that is no longer a photograph.

Deciding what to call this technique was a bit of a nightmare in itself; would people be put off by the word ‘digital’, would they think it was AI, would they think I’d cheated and just pressed a button in an app? However I’ve settle on digital collage as that is exactly what this process is.

I use a pigment printer to print out limited editions of my final picture. The pigment ink gives a better print, which lasts longer than ordinary inkjet prints. It is a giclée print, for all intents and purposes, printed using eight separate ink colours. I also use a high quality archival paper which is slightly textured in a way similar to watercolour paper.

To keep costs down I am only selling my prints here as unframed. This also allows you to approach a framer with your own interior design ideas, rather than being forced to accept mine!

Ali’s Crafty Creating

Let me introduce you to the amazing world of fused glass! I think of fused glass as science meets creativity!

The piece ready to fire
The glass during firing
The finished piece

As I only have a small studio I cannot use a conventional kiln so I create using microwave kilns, special pieces of kit that absorb microwaves and allow the glass to be heated to the dizzy heights it requires to become molten.
But these kilns have limitations in size, but it pushes my creativity.

These photos shows the cut and arranged glass prior to firing and a quick glimpse of the glass during the firing process, as well as the finished piece!

Christmas garlands, how to display them if you don’t have a fireplace!

Christmas-garland-on-front-door

“I’d love a Christmas garland but I don’t have anywhere to put one” is a phrase I hear a lot! But garlands are not just for fireplaces and mantelpieces, they’re not just for Christmas either! Garlands can be made for spring, summer and autumn as well as winter!

Garlands have been used for many years, with roots dating back to Pagan times. They are said to represent eternal life, and hope for a good spring. These days, we use them to decorate our homes and bring a touch of the outside in!

Garlands come in many different sizes and styles, you can find snowy garlands, evergreen garlands, cedar or pine garlands. You can also add lights for a touch of sparkle, bells and a whole rainbow of colours with baubles, bells and flowers. Dried fruit, pine cones and cinnamon for a classic traditional look, or vibrant colours, monochrome or pastels for more modern homes. But where do you display them if you don’t have a traditional fireplace?

Here are a few suggestions.

  • Around a front door- You can opt for a shorter length to cover either the top or one side, or an extra long garland to surround the whole door for the ultimate wow factor! Why not add lights to really give your Christmas visitors a warm welcome.
  • On a tv stand- a shorter garland is the perfect size to place in front of your tv. If you’re worried the remote sensor won’t work you could opt for an ivy garland with some dried fruit and fairy lights instead of the full pine version.

  • Staircase garland- For a real luxury feel a staircase garland is a great choice! This option is ideal if you like to decorate more than just one room for Christmas, you can tie in the colour scheme to match your Christmas tree or go for something entirely different!

  • Windowsill- A small garland can really brighten up a window, lights are a good choice to bring some warmth in when you’re looking out onto a cold winter day. You could even attach the garland to your curtain pole if you’d prefer to keep the windowsill clear.
  • As a table centrepiece- If you like to go all out with beautiful table decorations a garland makes a fabulous alternative to a traditional table runner. add candles, (fake flame ones ideally) or if you’re feeling creative you could use sprigs of foraged foliage to create matching place names or cutlery holders!
  • Sideboard, or Welsh dresser- Another option to consider is as decoration for a sideboard or cupboard, push right to the back so you still have a useable space or right in the middle to really make a focal point!
  • Around a mirror or picture- adding a garland around a frame can add a touch of Christmas to any room!

  • Christmas tree- if you have a beautiful tree but don’t like the boring tree stands you could simply wrap a garland around the bottom! This will elevate your Christmas decor and hide the unsightly tree holder or base at the same time.

These are just a few ideas, there are many more ways to display a garland in your home, if you have a flat surface you can put a garland on it!

At Silver Halos I offer a completely bespoke service; you choose the style, length, colour scheme, and leave the rest to me, or why not check out my ready to post options!

It doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious! And it comes—you guessed it—in an adorable little fabric pouch.

Chocolate Lip Scrub – £4.99

Why Vermont52? A Little Bit of Christmas Magic All Year Round

You might be wondering about my shop name – Vermont52. It’s a bit of an unusual choice for someone based in a small seaside town in the UK, isn’t it? But there’s a story behind it, and it’s one that’s close to my heart.

I absolutely love Christmas. Not just the decorations or the presents, but the feeling of it all – that sense of magic, community, kindness, and connection that seems to wrap around everything during the festive season. There’s something about Christmas that brings out the best in people, and I wanted to capture that warmth and wonder in my work all year round.

If you’ve ever found yourself curled up watching Christmas films (guilty as charged!), you might know about Channel 52 – the Christmas channel that fills your screen with cosy, heartwarming stories. So many of those films are set in idyllic places like Vermont – think snow-dusted woodland towns, twinkling lights, close-knit communities, and that beautiful connection to nature. There’s always a general store, a town square, people who genuinely care about each other, and a sense that magic is just around the corner.

That’s the feeling I want to bring to every piece I create. Whether it’s a fox nestled among autumn leaves, a robin on a snowy branch, or a whimsical seagull with a cheeky grin, each sculpture is made with that same spirit of warmth, wonder, and connection to the natural world.

So Vermont52 isn’t just a name – it’s a reminder that we can carry that Christmas magic with us all year long. It’s about kindness, community, nature, and creating little moments of joy that make life feel a bit more enchanting.

Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I hope my creations bring a little bit of that Vermont magic into your home, wherever you are.

With love and creativity x

Introduction, Hello from me !

Photograph of Lisa Reeve in floral dress smiling

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by and reading this!

I am Lisa, addicted to all things creative, lover of free motion embroidery and drawer of flowers.

I have been sewing since a very young age and started making my own clothes before I had left high school. Always rushing to get something finished before I could go out to the local disco that evening. Fairly new to drawing flowers even though I did go to Art school, I wasn’t much interested in plants at that age.

As you can probably tell by the word ‘disco’  I am a nana, entering the wonderful world of internet selling. It is bewildering but I am learning something new every day. In my naivety I believed you make pretty things and guess what lovers of pretty things see them …. magic! So, I have learnt it takes a lot more than that. So I am embracing Instagram and Facebook, making a few mistakes along the way, but like I said learning and enjoying it, so please follow me if you can.

http://instagram.com/lisareevedesigns_

My hand is being held by The British Craft House, guiding me though this new adventure.

And take a look at my shop if you can, its full of very pretty things!
